Designer Profile: Louise Goldin

During London Fashion Week and at the press day for Relative Mo, the London/Paris PR agency, at Somerset House I discovered Louise Goldin and her wonderful sculptured clothes.

As many other successful designers she, of course, studied at Central Saint Martins followed by work as head designer at Tereza Santos in Brazil for two years.

Louise Goldin herself describes her design signatures as follows; “Innovative programmed techniques where I create my own knitted fabric and textures, combined with structured, sculpted garments.” And about her clients she says; “A woman who has her own sense of style. She can integrate a Louise Goldin piece into her wardrobe and wear it effortlessly!”

Born and raised in London she is still not tired of the buzzing city where she gets a lot of her inspiration: “There is such a buzz and creative flow in London! I love creating here. I get inspired by all museums - the V&A, The British Museum, Tate and scientific research libraries... I love looking into science: chemistry, biology and physics.”

5 things I ♥ about Westwood

1) The patterns
The Scottish patterned woollen cloth used for kilts that has been popular in Scotland for hundreds of year, comes to life again thanks to Queen Westwood. The tartan patterns in Westwoods clothes, created by the use of different coloured wool for the warp and the weft, allows to be mixed and matched with just about everything.

2) The assymetric design
Always that twist that makes a coat, a dress or a shirt stand out. Amazing cuts!

3) The hidden corsets
Found in at least 95% of her dresses is the corset design which is truly flattering for any type of shapes on a woman.

4) The everlasting punk rock references
Since she opened the clothing store "Let it Rock" in London in 1971 (which changed its name to SEX in 1976) together with her partner Malcolm McLaren, she never seems to forget the 70s.
5) The orbs
They are everywhere on her accessories and jewellery and they just look great. It's as simple as that!

Claudia + Chanel

I think its a good move by classic and timeless Chanel to use classic and timeless models such as the beautiful German former top model Claudia Schiffer for the latest campaign. Karl Lagerfeld has used the face of Claudia for Chanel before, most recently in last year’s cruise collection. This campaign is shot in Buenos Aires.

Lulu and her friends

Lulu Kennedy’s latest project, Lulu & Co, is a series of limited edition collaborations with her legion of Fashion East Alumni, including such names as Roksanda Ilincic, Holly Fulton and Richard Nicoll. These are my four favourites:

Palermo in Danish design

This outfit looks great on The City's Olivia Palermo. I love the combination of textures; knitwear and leather which makes it stylish and chic but at the same time casual with an edge. The design and the lines on the knitted cape/sweater by Malene Birger are fantastic. Being Scandinavian myself I have to say that I love Scandinavian design. Minimarket, Carin Wester, Acne, Dagmar, Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair and Whyred are some of my favourite Swedish designers. Our neighbours i Denmark also have a lot of great designers where Malene Birger is my definite favourite among them all. I especially love her outerwear and knitwear.

From Malene Birger's latest collection I would definitely go for this black, oversized winter cape coat. It's just so stylish and a real investment piece!

Foreplay by Lanvin

share image
SEE THE LATEST VIDEO ABOUT THE H&M DESIGNER COLLABORATION.

It's like a foreplay that goes on forever. Normally I wouldn't complain, but now I'm really looking forward to the finale (so to speak)! I'm talking about H&M, I'm talking about Lanvin and the fact that there is still around 20 (!) days to go before the collection will be in store but we have seen and heard about it for months already. Since I'm in Sweden at the moment I went to the H&M/Lanvin press event yesterday and have already located the pieces I want...

Do you remember the Teddy Girls?

Do you remember the Teddy Girls? Do you remember the era? Well, the Australian-based Oyster Mag do as well as the photographer and stylist who did this awsome shoot; Liz Ham and Jolyon Masonwork.

Other people who remember the Teddy-era are Hint Fashion Magazine and The Sunday Times:

"The teddy girls of 1950s London -- their sartorial assertiveness contrasted with the bombed out environments they occupied and their feisty appropriation of male styles (often down to the classic duck-tail haircut) set them apart from the standard Fifties Feminine."
Mina Estevez, Hint Fashion Magazine

"The teddy girls left school at 14 or 15, worked in factories or offices, and spent their free time buying or making their trademark clothes -- pencil skirts, rolled-up jeans, flat shoes, tailored jackets with velvet collars, coolie hats and long, elegant clutch bags. It was head-turning, fastidious dressing, taken from the fashion houses of the time, which had launched haute-couture clothing lines recalling the Edwardian era."
The Sunday Times

Betty

I just have to show you this photo of Betty that I found on her blog. I really love her style and I have followed her on her blog for years. I especially like her rock chic look and the way she always manage to find über stylish pieces in high street stores.

These hot pants are a favourite of mine. The finishes on the denim looks great and with the top from Sarah Wayne and the leather jacket, the whole outfit gets a casual but stylish look - a typical Betty-look.

At home with Lizzie McGrath

Even though I don't live in Berlin I am a great fan of BANGBANGBERLIN.com, a website which has become a source for finding out what's happening in Berlin right now. Lizzy McGrath, the editor in chief, really knows fashion and nightlife. I recently discovered that the interview mag Freunde von Freunde had done a at-home-coverage with her. Have a look at their great photos above.

Black & White Simplicity

Found this pic on All the pretty birds: Black & white. The classic white shirt. A belt which marks the waist. Straight hair and straight lines. Simplicity at its best!

Vintage on my mind

Reading the book "A Vintage Affair" by Isabel Wolff at the moment and therefore going into a vintage mind. Since I started reading it I have been on my laptop 24/7 looking at vintage pieces for sale at Christie´s and Sotheby´s and I have already booked a flight to Avignon i November where I will spend my days buying vintage pieces at the markets.

At the same time I am adoring Georgia May Jagger from W's September issue styled by the fantastic Alex White. Dressed in a Carolina Herrera’s mink jacket, a Moschino’s silk top and wool bouclé skirt combined with earrings, bracelets, and rings from Munnu/The Gem Palace it's all perfect with a vintage feeling.

The Details

I found this pic on my favourite blog - Jak&Jil - and I love it! It's all about the details, it always is. Of course it is Burberry and of course do I love it. Will you be mine?

This autumn we are all looking for the perfect leather jacket. And guess what...I found it!

Black leather biker jacket from Balenciaga with multiple zips and pockets and 100% lambskin leather.

Ageless

Throughout the years I have invested in a few pieces - clothes and accessories - which are both practical and stylish, classic and minimalist and most important of all; a piece which will age with character over the years. This handbag from English designer Margaret Howell is all of the above!

Swedish wedges

Can't get enough of wedges. Not now, not yet. These ones are from Swedish designer Reodebjer.
